Read the letter Gabi’s parents wrote to friends and supporters after Gabi’s successful attempt:
Dear Friends and Family,
Gabi did it!
For her 16th birthday, she wanted to break a world record. On Saturday, 4/19 at 4:45 pm in Boulder, Colorado, in front of video cameras and independent witnesses and a cheering crowd of friends and family, she succeeded in doubling the existing world record for the longest female abdominal plank with the astonishing time of one hour and twenty minutes and five seconds.
Gabi’s plank was full of challenge and drama. It was a triumph of spirit and love.
In the process, Gabi has inspired people around the world, young and old, to test their limits and look for strengths in apparent weaknesses.
On Saturday, her attempt was featured on p. 2 in The Denver Post and on the front page of the Health and Science section of the Folha de São Paulo. Her story and video have received tens of thousands of likes on Facebook. And Gabi has raised $48,000 so far in online donations and pledges for the Children’s Hospital.
Gabi’s record remains to be certified by the Guinness Book of World Records. She will be submitting the detailed video and photographic and testimonial evidence today and hopes to have an answer within 10-14 days. We will keep you posted, of course.
We want to thank each of you for all your support and encouragement which has shown up in so many ways to make this possible!
With deep gratitude and a touch of relief,
Bill and Lizanne
On April 29th, her attempt was certified by Guinness who came out to meet her and give her the World Record certificate during her appearance at Good Morning America.
